Lawton's Grand March
FOR PIANO OR ORGAN
by Mary A. Corbin
©1900 by A. W. Perry Sons' Music Co.
Dedicated to General Henry W.
Lawton, one of the bravest, most skillful, and best loved officers
of the army who was killed at San Mateo, December 19, 1899
"Rest Noble Gen'ral, your name
we revere,
To all sons of freedom, thy memory is dear;
Rest 'til the Angel of God shall proclaim
Freedom to all who believe in his name.
Farewell, farewell,
Peaceful be thy sleep."

These music sheets are part
of the Samuel Culbertson Mansion Collection. We kept them on the
Grand Piano in the parlor for several years in hopes that someone would
come along and be able to play the piece. We're told it's
technically challenging, and it seems in some places the pianist would
need all ten fingers, and maybe a couple of toes, all working at the
same time. So far we've only had luck with one person being able
to play the first few bars before crying "uncle". Now we're
putting the piece up on the Internet. If someone out there can
play this, we'd love to have you do a recording of it for us!
